A skill is a set of instructions Beacon follows when you run it. Use a skill when you want the same careful result every time, such as a weekly status report written in your house style.

Run a skill

In the Beacon box, type / and choose a skill, or choose Add and then Skills. The skill appears in your message as blue text starting with a slash, for example /make-spreadsheet. Add what you want and send the message. A skill only adds a procedure for Beacon to follow. Every action Beacon takes while following it still goes through your own permissions.

Skills from Saphion

Saphion provides skills of its own. They appear under From Saphion and are the same for every Organisation. They include skills for making an Excel workbook with live formulas, a Word or PDF file, and a PowerPoint deck.

Your own skills

Open Settings > Skills (under Customise). Your skills are listed under Created by you, with a search box above the list.
1

Choose Add

The menu offers Create a skill and Create with Beacon. Choose Create with Beacon if you would like help writing the instructions in a chat.
2

Name and describe it

Give the skill a name, such as “Weekly status report”. The description says what it is for and when to use it, for example “Generate weekly status reports from recent work. Use when asked for updates or progress summaries.”
3

Write the instructions

Describe, step by step, what Beacon should do and how the result should look. Instructions can be up to 20,000 characters.
4

Save

Choose Save changes. To test the skill, open it and choose Try in chat.
Only you can see and use a skill you create. To change one, open its menu and choose Edit. To remove one, choose Remove. It leaves your list and your / menu, and this cannot be undone.

What a skill’s page tells you

Open any skill to read its description and what it is not for, who created it, and how it runs. A skill that adds only instructions says Only adds instructions. A skill that brings tools for Beacon says so, and each of those acts still goes through your own permissions.
